What happened to Romero?

What happened to Romero?  George A. Romero, creator of the iconic Night of the Living dead has done nothing but gone down hill.  I loved Land of the Dead, but realized it had some serious flaws.  Diary of the Dead was passable, but Survival of the Dead (lame title btw) was truly awful with no redeeming value.  There is not a single scene where we care about the characters or think of them as people.  There is very little zombie action in it and some of it is played up for laughs, though none of it is actually funny.  This movie has no idea what it wanted to be.  At times it tried to by cynical and serious and sometimes it was slapstick but none of it is done well.  To go through the whole thing and list what was wrong, I’d basically have to write the whole movie for you.  As to what the movie did right….I have yet to find it.  At the end it devolves into some kind of preachy morality lesson, but we have no idea what the message is.  The man who created a whole new sub-genre (Romero type zombies) now has no idea how to make a zombie movie.  Zack Snyder did the remake of Day of the dead and it was amazing.  The British made 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks later, both awesome flicks.  Even Shaun of the Dead was a better zombie movie.  Then we get Zombieland, another comedy.  Basically, everyone does zombies better.  Sad.
